Today, it is a Memorial Rally for everyone. We have all lost someone or something that we will never forget. Whether it be a family member, a friend, a fellow rider or a beloved pet. We would like to pay our respects to any and all with a traditional piper every year on the Sunday morning at 8:00 A.M. of each rally, followed by a moment of silence. But, it didn't start that way. Sometime in 2001, Gary Oja and some friends were sitting around having a few beverages and started a discussion. The topic started as many of us have done in the past with … " I remember that guy, what was his name " ? After saying, "I will never forget you". Only to discover, that they could no longer remember a name. Two of the fellows, Gary Oja and Hughie Mclean, made a pact that night, that if either one of them was to die first, the other would hold a party in their honor for 5 years to hopefully always honor and remember. Shortly after that gathering, sadly, Hughie died in a motorcycle accident and Gary was determined to fulfill his promise. In 2002 the 1st informal motorcycle rally happened with just a few friends, a few drinks and a backyard BBQ. In 2003 the same thing happened with quite a few more people in attendance. Then, in 2004 the first official Horsethief Hideout Memorial Motorcycle was advertised and opened to the public …. and the rest is history in the making.
